Andrea Mitchell
Andrea Mitchell is an American television journalist anchor and commentator for NBC News based in Washington D.C. After growing up living in New York City, Mitchell earned a BA in English literature from the University of Pennsylvania. Mitchell began her career as a radio and TV reporter at KYW Radio and TV in Philadelphia, KYW Radio and TV. She joined the CBS affiliate WDVM-TV (then WTOP) in Washington DC in 1976. After two years, she joined NBC News as a Washington correspondent. Beginning in 1981 she began covering the White House. In 1988 she was named chief congressional reporter. She was promoted to Chief White House correspondent in 1992 as well as chief foreign reporter of NBC News in 1994. Mitchell is a former panelist and presenter of the TV program Meet the Press. Mitchell was a panelist at the 1988 debates among George Bush & Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is the wife of Alan Greenspan who was former chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell has been awarded her Goldsmith Career Award in Journalism at the John F. Kennedy School of Government. And in 2004, Radio-Television News Directors Association, (RTNDA), honored Mitchell for her contribution in the defense of First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell's first White House coverage was for NBC News, between 1981-1988. This period included both Ronald Reagan terms in office. Mitchell reported on many noteworthy reports, including weapons control, budget taxes and the Iran Contra scandal. Mitchell also went to many summits with the help of the President Reagan with Mikhail Gorbachev.
